'The Lion King' Live-Action Remake Cast: Director Eyes Beyoncé to Play Nala
People involved in the making of the "The Lion King" live-action remake are reportedly eyeing Grammy award-winning artist Beyoncé to play the role of Nala.
According to a report from Variety, sources shared that Beyoncé is the top choice of Jon Favreau, the director of the upcoming movie remake, to give voice to the lioness character.
Fans of "The Lion King" first knew Nala from the original 1994 animated film version of the movie. Nala is Simba's childhood best friend who later on became his wife. The lioness plays a key role in the franchise because as was shown in the 1994 movie, she was the first one to convince Simba to go back to Pride Rock and reclaim his late father's throne from his evil uncle Scar.
However, considering that Beyoncé is currently pregnant with twins, the Variety source claimed that she is still thinking about the offer. It can be recalled that she had earlier backed out from being the main event performer at Coachella sometime after announcing her pregnancy.
The Variety source reportedly added that Favreau and Disney are very much willing to adjust to Beyoncé's schedule with consideration to her being pregnant and that they are really hoping the singer-songwriter would agree to work on the role since it is only a voice-acting gig.
Meanwhile, it has already been reported and confirmed that the "The Lion King" live-action remake will star Donald Glover as the main character Simba while James Earl Jones will reprise his role as Mufasa.
Last month, Disney published a statement to confirm the news, saying, "We are so excited to see more of what is sure to be a breathtaking visual story, as Favreau and The Lion King team bring a photorealistic life to the story of Simba, building on the groundbreaking technology used in The Jungle Book. Combined with amazing voice talent like James Earl Jones and Donald Glover, we're sure to be in for an amazing experience."
The premiere date for the "The Lion King" live-action remake has yet to be announced.
