'The Mayor' Season 1 Episode 2 Spoilers: Struggling Rapper's New Gig as City Mayor Begins in New ABC Comedy
All the 27-year-old struggling rapper, Courtney Rose (Brandon Micheal Hall), wanted was a little attention. But he ends up getting more than he's bargained for on ABC's new political comedy series, "The Mayor."
In order to bring his music to a much larger audience, Courtney decided to campaign for mayor of his city, Fort Grey. He never expected to and never even intended to win, but after speaking out for the concerns of the common people during a public debate against fellow mayoral candidate, Ed Gunt (David Spade), Courtney ended up winning the favor of 52 percent of the voters.
But although the rapper has a clear understanding of and even first-hand experience of the things that concern the people of Fort Grey, he is also just a young guy bound to make some impulsive decisions for his own personal fulfillment.
On the other hand, he also has his mother, Dina Rose (Yvette Nicole Brown), by his side to help him get back on track.
And with the additional assistance of his high school best friends T.K. Clifton (Marcel Spears) and Jermaine Leforge (Bernard David Jones), as well as his tenth-grade lab partner, Valentina Barella (Lea Michele), Mayor Rose is all set to tackle the upcoming challenges of his first 100 days in office.
After cleaning up the City Commons in the pilot episode, Courtney will be taking care of his old elementary school's music program on the next episode titled "The Filibuster."
According to the teaser summary, the said music program will be in danger of being eliminated, and it will be up to the new city mayor to make sure that this never happens.
On the other hand, Jermaine will be appointed as the new communications director, T.K. struggles with the seeming lack of significance in his current role in Courtney's staff. Dina will be instrumental in helping him find something to appreciate about his title.
"The Mayor" airs on Tuesdays at 9:30 p.m. EDT on ABC.
The original music featured in the pilot episode as well as a preview of the song, "Brokenomics," which will be played on the next episode, are now available on iTunes and Spotify.
