'The Mist' Season 2 News: Series Based on Stephen King Novel Canceled After a Single Run
First released in June of this year, "The Mist" is TV adaptation of the film created by Frank Darabont in 2007. The first season was aired on Spike, and it was meant to attract the science fiction and horror-loving community. However, it seems that it failed to do so as reports reveal that "The Mist" has been canceled after its first season run.
Considering "The Mist" season 1 was meant to signify Spike's first original scripted series, fans of the network had so many expectations. However, it seems that many were disappointed with it as statistics indicate that the pilot episode had the highest number of viewers at 1.2 million. For the rest of the season, "The Mist" had a difficult time in attracting more than 800,000 viewers, as The Hollywood Reporter revealed. To make it worse, "The Mist" also could not join the cable's top 30 scripted series.
Meanwhile, Deadline reports that Spike's president Kevin Kay believed that "The Mist" had potential. Considering they are set to be rebranded as part of Paramount Networks, Kay thought that "The Mist" would continue on to season 2 under the new management. Unfortunately, the Stephen King-based TV series failed to meet the expectations of its cast, crew, and fans.
"The Mist" was set in a small town located in Maine. Although the main focus of the series had been the thick and ominous mist covering the town, it was also meant to showcase the good and bad sides of humanity. It questioned what people would be willing to do and how far they would go in order to ensure survival. Coupled with fear, the series was a mix of science fiction, thriller, mystery, and horror.
"The Mist" season 1 starred Morgan Spector, Frances Conroy, and Alyssa Sutherland. It was created by Christian Torpe and Amanda Segel.
