The OMEN Challenge Happening At TwitchCon 2017
The OMEN Challenge is back and this year "Player Unknown's Battlegrounds" is joining in. The massively popular battle royale game will be featured in the two-hour duo tournament and will inspire the 4D effects of the dreaded torture chamber.
This Saturday, 40 of the top players in the world will face off in a two-hour tournament. However, they will also have to face a sadistic live audience in this twisted amalgam of a LAN party, an eSports tournament, and sensory overload. All of this can be watched live from TwitchCon 2017 and Twitch.tv.
For those unfamiliar with the event, the OMEN Challenge was the first ever live-action tournament streamed on Twitch. However, unlike traditional eSports tournaments, players face a gauntlet of mysterious challenges meant to test their skill, teamwork, and most of all concentration.
Players sit inside a "torture chamber" fitted with the best gaming gear and a plethora of physical effects that can range from electrical surges to sonic booms, to compressed air traps. These chambers are specifically designed for each new title added to the challenge.
In the past, players have had to brave freezing arctic blasts to the face courtesy of the deities from "SMITE" or dealt with blinding smoke from grenades used in "Counter-Strike: Global Offensive." This year, however, they will have to deal with tortures inspired by Erangel, the main playable map of "Player Unknown's Battlegrounds."
If the 4D experience isn't enough to throw players off their game, maybe audience participation will. Every few minutes, viewers on the live stream as well as audience members will get to vote to torture their team of choice and even occasionally be allowed to throw things at them. This is all good fun of course, twisted, sadistic, wholesome gamer fun.
Want to see gamers experience the horrors of the OMEN Challenge torture chambers? Be sure to catch the action this Saturday, Oct. 21 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. PDT.
