'The Peanuts Movie' news: Steve Martino emphasizes importance of characters

The upcoming film "The Peanuts Movie" will delight fans of the classic story.

The Peanuts Movie is expected to feature well-loved characters such as Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Woodstock, Lucy, Sally, Patty, Schroeder, and Linus.

Director of the movie, Steve Martino, recently spoke to Screen Crush about the process of making the famous characters and story come to life. He explained that he and his team had such a journey while trying to bring the comic strip to life. To them, the characters were the most important part of the movie. He stated that bringing the characters to the big screen required handmade quality to portray Charles Schulz's style.
He said, "So important in bringing these characters to the screen, is that there is a handmade quality. There's a way that Charles Schulz drew these characters. They weren't perfect! And out of that, he creates so much emotion."

Martino also spoke about the making of the film's script. He explained that Craig and Bryan Schulz had been developing the script for several years already, even before they met him. They presented a new story to push the comic further. He said, "As we worked together, what emerged was a wonderful thematic idea that was based on looking at Charlie Brown through 50 years. What we learn is that the kindness and honesty and never give up attitude that he's always had are still important and valuable."

Before the movie releases, fans can now create their own Peanuts avatar that interact with Charlie Brown and the other characters. The film released a website called "Peanutize Me!" that will allow users to customize characters by changing hair, clothing, and accessories. Players can choose to create their characters from many options.

The Peanuts Movie will air in theaters this Nov. 6.
