'The Purge' Prequel Cast, Plot News: First Two Lead Characters Confirmed
After it was confirmed a few weeks ago that the fourth installment in "The Purge" franchise would be titled "The Island," news came out recently that the upcoming prequel had already cast its first two lead characters. Several days ago, "Insecure" actor Y'lan Noel and "Training Day" actress Lex Scott Davis officially signed on for the project, making them the first two confirmed cast members of the film.
"The Purge: The Island" will serve as a prequel to the first three movies, centering on the first experimental purge and how it paved the way for the annual tradition in the United States. According to reports, the franchise will step back in time in "Purge 4" as it ventures into how the world turned out to be so grim since the first purge occurred on Staten Island. It will also dig deeper into what made the New Founding Fathers gain so much power in America. It is also set to touch on the psychological effects that this tradition has on the American people.
With the pre-production stage for the next "Purge" film already in full swing, director Gerard McMurray has confirmed bringing two young actors to lead "The Purge: The Island." As of the moment, Noel's and Davis' roles in the film are still unknown, but their castings seem to suggest that it will not be long before the actual production for "The Purge: The Island" finally kicks off. Previously, franchise creator James DeMonaco also revealed that the cast for the fourth installment would be mostly black.
After directing the first three "Purge" movies, DeMonaco stepped away from the director's chair and let McMurray take the helm for the prequel. However, even though he is no longer the director, DeMonaco was still the one who penned the script for the upcoming film.
"The Purge: The Island" is expected to premiere in U.S. movie theaters on July 4, 2018.
