'The Secret World' to Relaunch as Free-to-Play MMO
Funcom's unique massively multiplayer online (MMO) title "The Secret World" is now re-cast as an online action role-playing game (RPG) called "Secret World Legends." The previous MMO will still co-exist alongside the relaunch that will be coming in the spring of this year.
"The Secret World" MMO has dropped the monthly subscription fees, but still requires prospective players to buy the game software. In contrast, the "Secret World Legends" will be free to download and free to play, according to a short coverage by the gaming news outlet Kotaku. Also, unlike other games that are free to play up to a certain point, "Secret World Levels" will not be keeping any game content behind a pay wall. The only time players will need to spend real currency is to buy account upgrades and cosmetic items for their characters.
Learning from the overall good reception but weak subscription numbers from the previous "Secret World Legends" MMO, the relaunch is now turning the previously tedious combat into an action RPG that plays faster and feels more natural. Improvements to the system and the progress structure of the game will make the overall experience more intuitive and much more accessible to veterans and new players alike.

At the official website for "Secret World Legends," Funcom is now soliciting players for its beta version of the game. Like the upcoming final version, the beta version will also be free for all players to sign up for and download.

"'Secret World Legends' uses that foundation to mark a new era for the game, offering a fresh start for newcomers and long-time fans alike, delivering a captivating journey that can be enjoyed entirely on your own or with friends," Casais added.
