'The Simpsons Arcade Game' Set for Re-Release?

The Australian Classification Board has reportedly listed a recent rating of Konami’s “The Simpsons Arcade Game”.

This website, classification.gov.au, posted the information behind the game. The classification is listed as PG and categorized under Computer Games. The rating certificate also mentions online play.

A PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade digital release of the game may be in the works.

The developer of the game is listed as Backbone Entertainment. Backbone is also responsible for producing the 2010 PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade port of "X-Men Arcade."

The original "The Simpsons Arcade Game" was released in 1991. Konami was the publisher for the game. Gamers selected from four members from the cast of the Simpsons family and fought through Springfield.

The original arcade release allowed for simultaneous play with four people.

Forum users for gaming website GamesRadar.com voiced their thoughts online.

"Man, it's good to hear there are other people out there who loved this just as much as I did. Nowadays when I mention it people ask me 'What?’” said forum user pyrosomniac.

Forum User Pyroco101 said: "I just get giddy nostalgia every time someone mentions how great this game is - A downright classic."

Forum user db1331 recounted his memories of the game: "Man, I couldn't even begin to count how many quarters my buddies and I sank into this machine at the local Putt-Putt. What a great game. Second only to the TMNT arcade game in my book."

Forum user Red_Bool talked about his playtime with the original version: "[I] spent way too many guilders on this in the arcade with a friend. Hopefully it is still as good as I remember...If it is: instabuy for the both of us :-D."

Konami and Backbone Entertainment have given no official word on this rumored re-release.
