'The Vampire Diaries' Season 6 News: Nina Dobrev Heads Over to 'The Originals' for Crossover Episode

Is Nina Dobrev leaving "The Vampire Diaries" for good?

Rumors of the actress leaving the show sparked when it was reported that her co-star and former boyfriend, Ian Somerhalder, has been showing up on set with his new girlfriend in tow, "Twilight" actress Nikki Reed.

Though Dobrev isn't leaving the show, she will be featured in a crossover episode of "The Originals."

"The Originals" and "The Vampire Diaries" creator Julie Plec told E!Online that Dobrev will appear in a flashback not as Elena Gilbert, but as a doppelganger whom Klaus and Elijah loved a long time ago, Tatia.

"When we plan our crossovers, we like to think of the most clever way to integrate 'The Vampire Diaries' mythology in 'The Originals' mythology," said Plec.

"There was a character's name introduced a long time ago in Season 3 in association with Klaus and Elijah and how they became vampires and a girl that they both loved a long time ago who was the original doppelganger, Tatia," she added.

Tatia will appear on the Nov. 4 episode of "The Originals," and Plec said in some ways it's a lot similar to Elena's love triangle with Damon and Stefan.

"Klaus and Elijah both loved her, so it's a little bit of history repeating itself like with Stefan and Damon," said Plec.

But will the doppelganger stories continue in the latest season of "The Vampire Diaries"? The storyline involving doppelgangers have been explored throughout past seasons of the show, but show runner Caroline Dries, in an interview with Hitfix, said that there will be no such thing for this coming season.

"I just finished episode 10. We haven't said it in 10 episodes," said Dries. "We've been pretty diligent about that. And I'm pretty sure if we say it, it's just to make fun of it. I really am proud of actually the whole doppelganger thing, but I get it. It's like, 'We did that story, so moving on…'"

"The Vampire Diaries" season 6 returns on Oct. 2, while "The Originals" premieres its second season on Oct. 6. Both shows are on The CW.
