'The Vampire Diaries' Season 8 Spoilers: Finale Will Be Star-Studded and Emotional

All good things must come to an end, and that is the same fate for the eight-year-long series, "Vampire Diaries." Given that fact, it plans to go out with a bang by bringing in personalities that fans love and an equally compelling plot.

Of course, everyone knows that Nina Dobrev, who plays Elena Gilbert in the series, is coming back for the show's finale. After she announced her return on Instagram by taking a photo of the script and the hashtags #BackOnSet and #TVDForever, fans quickly responded in excitement and it has amassed close to two million likes.

She isn't the only one who will be gracing the finale. Apparently, Michael Malarkey, who plays the role of Enzo St. John, will still be returning before the series pulls down the curtains. Despite Stefan ripping his heart out, by some twist he's going to be there.

"I've gone in and done a couple bits here and there," Malarkey tells TVLine. He adds, "It's nice to be able to wrap this thing up the way they've done it, to know this is the end, and to do it justice."

Apparently, more of the cast members are coming back to help make a big explosion for the much-loved series. There are reports saying David Anders (John Gilbert), Michael Trevino (Tyler Lockwood), Kayla Ewell (Vicki Donovan) and Steven R. McQueen (Jeremy Gilbert) will also be gracing the finale with their presence, so one can expect it is going to be a huge reunion of sorts.

As for the plot, no one knows yet, but showrunner Julie Plec promised it is going to be one for the books. "Get ready, because it's going to be an epic ride," Plec said during the Comic-Con International last July.

If anything, it's a safe prediction that it is going to be an emotional one. Dobrev tweeted a photo of her along with avid fans and captioned it with a heartfelt gratitude for those who have been with them for a long time.

Prepare to watch with a box of tissues within reach because "The Vampire Diaries" finale will be airing on March 10, 2017, 8 p.m. ET on CW.
