'The Vampire Diaries' Season 8 spoilers: Nina Dobrev Returns as Villainous Katherine Pierce in Series Finale
"The Vampire Diaries" series finale is a week away, and what better way to conclude an eight-season run than to lure in and take on the most persistent villain in the entire history of the show. Coincidentally, she also happens to look exactly like the show's former main protagonist.
After learning in the previous episode that Katherine (Nina Dobrev) is now the ruler of Hell, Stefan (Paul Wesley) and his crew device a plan to lure her out and take care of her once and for all. In the upcoming episode titled "We're Planning a June Wedding," they will ultimately decide that the best way to smoke the vengeful Katherine out is to appeal to her undying obsession over Stefan.
The idea comes from Damon (Ian Somerhalder) as shown in the official trailer. With the current queen of Hell roaming their world in the shadows, it will only be a matter of time before she decides to strike and threaten the fate and safety of Mystic Falls. So before she even does that, they will be devising a plan to reel Katherine in.
"Who doesn't love a wedding?" Damon says, and this is exactly what they are going to do: disguise their planned attack on Katherine in the one festivity she would never miss.
But things may quickly go south when Katherine does show up and wreak havoc.
The much anticipated return of Dobrev, who played the double roles of the villainous Katherine and her doppelganger, Elena, is finally almost here. Will the Salvatore brothers be able to defeat her as Katherine? Will they finally find a way to wake up Elena without killing Bonnie (Kat Graham) in the process? There is no knowing what kinds of twist and turns are coming, and whether or not they will all be for the better or for the worse.
The only thing that's sure for now is that the show fully intends to go out with a bang.
"The Vampire Diaries" season 8 episode 15 airs on Friday, March 3, at 8 p.m. EST on The CW. Meanwhile, the series finale, which comes after a special one-hour retrospective celebrating and reminiscing the eight season of the show, will air on March 10.
