'The Vampire Diaries' spoiler alert: Will this be the last season of Damon Salvatore?

"The Vampire Diaries" hunky actor Ian Somerhalder recently has been dropping hints on his Instagram account that he might be saying good-bye to the show soon. In his recent posts, the actor said, "Looking into the future... Love, Ian." "The good old days... Look what was #1!!!!! Thank you for 6 years on the air," he said on another post. Millions of fans are now asking whether Damon Salvatore (Somerhalder's character), will be saying good-bye after all.

Even months after the breakup of Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder, it's still causing a lot of repercussions to the show. According to JobsNHire, Dobrev was being asked to come back to the show after her departure last season. The actress reportedly refused to work with her ex-boyfriend, which is why fans are speculating that Somerhalder's character might be killed off at the end of the upcoming season to give way to Elena Gilbert's (Nina Dobrev's character) comeback.

However, the executive producer of the show, Julie Plec, dishes all the rumors that The Vampire Diaries will not survive without the actress. The producer said that they will now have the chance to explore more with the storylines of other characters now that Dobrev has left the show. "The singular positive of her being out of the picture is that we've had this massive ensemble over the years. If the story wasn't revolving around Stefan, Elena, and Damon at its core and they weren't part of that story then they were sort of marginalized," she said in her interview with Zap2it during the San Diego Comic-Con.

Plec assures that there's more to the show even without Dobrev. Even if Ian Somerhalder may be hinting he's ready to move, the hit CW show promises it will still have a lot to watch out for this upcoming season.

The Vampire Diaries season 7 will be back on CW this fall.
