'The Voice' Judge Adam Levine Starts Record Label, Signs 'Glee' Star

"The Voice" judge Adam Levine has started a new record label and signed "Glee" star Matthew Morrison as his first act, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Levine, also the lead singer of the Grammy Award-winning rock group Maroon 5, announced the beginning of 222 Records and its first artist, Morrison, in a release on Thursday.

"Starting my own label has been a long time goal of mine and I am thrilled to be at the point in my career where it is finally happening," Levine said. "I am excited for everyone to hear Matthew's forthcoming album. Great things are in store for him with this release."

Morrison's album is due in the spring, according to the press release.

A source told THR that Levine is currently negotiating with some potential distributors and adding staff and company departments to his budding label.

"Adam and I share the same vision as we begin working on my record together," Morrison told The Hollywood Reporter. The actor released a self-titled album with Mercury Records in May 2011, which peaked at No. 24 on the Billboard 200.

Morrison, 33, is also set to appear in "What to Expect When You're Expecting," a comedy about five couples preparing for parenthood, opposite Jennifer Lopez and Cameron Diaz.

Levine, 32, may have trouble finding time to fit his record label project into his busy schedule.

With the success of "The Voice," the rocker won't be able to slow down anytime soon. Sunday night's season two premiere of the NBC singing competition show raked in the highest non-sports show ratings on network television in six years, tasteofcountry.com reported.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the show reigned in a solid 37.6 million viewers, with a 16.3 ratings share among adults between the ages of 18 to 49- a coveted demographic for advertisers.

"We did not expect the show to be what it wound up becoming. We didn't know what it was going to be, we were very open-minded to anything, but it became this thing that did genuinely change our lives," Levine told Access Hollywood on returning for season two of the show.

"It made me kind of passionate about certain things that I had forgotten about again," said the singer.
