'The Walking Dead' Season 4 Spin-Off Confirmed: 'Literally a No-Brainer'
AMC has confirmed that popular zombie drama "The Walking Dead" will have a spin off series, delighting fans of the show.
AMC President Charlie Collier released a statement about the spin off decision.
"Building on the success of the most popular show on television for adults 18-49 is literally a no-brainer. We look forward to working with Robert, Gale and Dave again as we develop an entirely new story and cast of characters. It's a big world and we can't wait to give fans another unforgettable view of the zombie apocalypse," the network president said in a statement.
Executive producer Robert Kirkman agreed that creating a spin-off was a more than obvious path to take.
"After 10 years of writing the comic book series and being so close to the debut of our fourth, and in my opinion, best season of the TV series, I couldn't be more thrilled about getting the chance to create a new corner of The Walking Dead universe. The opportunity to make a show that isn't tethered by the events of the comic book, and is truly a blank page, has set my creativity racing," Kirkman said in a statement.
Robert Kirkman will also produce the spin off series, Entertainment Weekly reports.
Few other details have been released about the new series. As of now it is unclear which, if any, "Walking Dead" characters will pop up or have central roles in the spin off.
The "The Walking Dead" season premiere is coming up later this fall, with the series returning to air on Oct. 13. There is not yet information on when the spin-off series will hit the air.
