'The Walking Dead' Season 7 Spoilers: Will Morgan Kill Himself?
The latest "The Walking Dead" season 7 episode titled "Bury Me Here" puts the spotlight on Morgan Jones (Lennie James). His past and current mental state is pretty much in conflict, which presents the possibility for him to commit suicide.
As fans have seen in last Sunday's episode, shortly after killing Richard (Karl Makinen), Morgan was standing over a grave and tightly holding a knife over his wrist, obviously thinking about ending his own life.
However, as to the question of whether or not Morgan can kill himself, "The Walking Dead" showrunner Scott M. Gimple shared his insight, saying: "He can't. He doesn't have the ability to. He's stuck. He tries but he can't. It's something within him. It's difficult to explain."
Morgan is one of the characters in the show who prefers to stay out of the limelight. In fact he is all for peace and non-violence. He views being weak as an advantage since he lives by the belief that good and bad people practically die first.
However, in the "Bury Me Here" episode, the show gave fans the chance to see and explore more of Morgan's mind.
Morgan killed Richard in the said episode by forcefully strangling him. The self-proclaimed weak person went for the kill, probably because he feels it is his way of giving some justice to the death of his dear friend Benjamin (Logan Miller).
Morgan treated Benjamin like a son. Their friendship started when he was tasked to teach the young one the art of Aikido. From there, Morgan made it his responsibility to look after him. This was important for Morgan who earlier in the series had lost his young son, Duane (Adrian Kali Turner).
Then the ruthless group of survivors, the Saviors, led by Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) forcefully took Benjamin from their group that led to his death. His loss has certainly forced Morgan to recount the death of his son.
So, Morgan jumped at the opportunity of avenging Benjamin's death. But was killing Richard a pre-made decision for Morgan? James doesn't think so.
The actor told Variety: "I don't think he woke up that morning thinking, 'I'm going to kill Richard.' I think he woke up that morning thinking he might have to. He did everything he could, short of not showing up, to prevent it from happening."
"The Walking Dead" airs every Sunday, 9 p.m. EDT on AMC.
