'The Walking Dead' Season 8 Release Date, Spoilers: There's No End in Sight as Rick Grows Old

"The Walking Dead" shambles along as the zombie series continues for another year of zombies and the long-suffering group led by Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln).

AMC has commissioned another season of "The Walking Dead," renewing the show for season 8 in October last year, as Digital Spy recapped. The show was extended yet again, even before its seventh season was launched.

AMC President Charlie Collier beamed at the prospect of "The Walking Dead" going on for another year. "Most important, thanks to those fans for breathing life into this remarkable series right along with us," he said. Those fans, like Collier mentioned, will be seeing the 100th episode of the long-running show when it returns in late October.

The series could be resorting to a time jump to add a twist to the lengthy show, according to Den of Geek. If true, the show looks to be simply following the lead of Robert Kirkman's comic book series, which jumps forward to the days after the "All Out War" led by Rick and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan).

The teaser clip presented in this year's Comic-Con shows an old Rick and his walking cane, which could be the show just following the script of the May 2014 issue of the comic. In volume #127, an older Rick, now dependent on a cane to walk, is shown as a leader presiding over the now-allied communities of Saviors, Alexandria and Hilltop.

Andrew Lincoln, who plays Rick, tries to inject a sense of doubt into the future of the show. "It will become somewhat clearer after the October premiere," says Lincoln, as it should since that's when the new season starts airing.

"Then again, it may not be. It maybe still is somewhat opaque. I think that that's possibly all I can say on the matter," he said, trying to imply that the trailer might not be 100 percent accurate, after all.

The video below shows the Comic-Con trailer for season 8 of "The Walking Dead," set to air starting on Sunday, Oct. 22, at 9 p.m. EDT on AMC for episode number 100.
