'The Walking Dead' Season 8 Spoilers: 'Old Man Rick' To Recur Next Season

The fans were shocked when they saw an older version of Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) at the end of "The Walking Dead" season 7, but they will once again get the chance to see the character again in the premiere episode of season 8.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the people behind the post-apocalyptic drama series revealed that the appearance of "Old Man Rick" will not be a one-time thing.

According to showrunner Scott M. Gimple hinted that the reason for the appearance of "Old Man Rick" will be revealed in the later part of the season."We won't quite know what it's about, and then we'll get an answer to that about halfway through. It's something that's going to play out," he stated.

"We won't quite know what it's about, and then we'll get an answer to that about halfway through. It's something that's going to play out," he stated.

However, Gimple shed light on one of the most popular fan theory. According to the showrunner, the older version of Rick will not wake up from a coma in a hospital. Yet he did not reveal how the character will regain his consciousness in the upcoming season.

On the other hand, executive producer Greg Nicotero revealed in the same interview that "Old Man Rick" will be a recurring character this season. He claimed that the character's appearance was taken from a major moment in the comic book that features a time jump to show what is in store for the story in the future.

"It shows the audience that we're committed for this fantastic long-term storytelling and that Rick's got his sh– together," Nicotero stated.

Meanwhile, new reports claimed that the upcoming season of "The Walking Dead" was given a go-signal by AMC to feature more swear words. This means that the characters can start cursing without any censorship in their dialogues for season 8.

"I think it was our script coordinator who told me there was an email had come up. There had been a memo saying we could now say 'f***' twice over the course of an entire season," showrunner Dave Erickson said in an interview with ComicBook.com. "I don't know at what point AMC corporate decided to allow it, but they did."

AMC will air the premiere episode of "The Walking Dead" season 8 on Sunday, Oct. 22, at 9 p.m. EDT.
