'The Walking Dead' Season 8 Spoilers: Showrunner Teases Intense First Four Episodes, Different Second Half
Season 8 of "The Walking Dead" recently premiered, and the action-packed episode is only just a taste of what is to come.
This much was revealed by showrunner Scott M. Gimple when he sat down with The Hollywood Reporter. He teased that the first four episodes of season 8 are "the most intense string of episodes" in the history of "The Walking Dead."
"Things start to build up from episodes five to eight but these first four, people are still feeling these first four," Gimple previewed.
He also said that the first and second half of this season will be quite different when it comes to the tone, though he did not reveal much else about the timeline of the story.
"There's a left-hand turn that really focuses things up in a very different and weird way," he teased of the second half of season 8.
The premiere episode of "The Walking Dead" season 8 saw the revelation of a future Rick (Andrew Lincoln), who walks with a cane. The older Rick was already featured in the trailer, so fans were aware of his inclusion before the season began. However, the episode also seemingly featured another time period where Rick has bloodshot eyes.
It remains to be seen whether this is Rick in another time period or if it is just a dream. Gimple refused to say anything conclusive about it, though he did say that questions will be answered when the time is right.
There are still plenty of episodes up ahead, as the all-out war against Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) has only just begun. Lincoln teased what to expect from the rest of the season.
"It's real life, but it is anchored with I think some of the biggest deaths we've ever dealt with," Lincoln told Entertainment Weekly. "And the second half I think is even darker and deeper and more connected than we've ever done. I've never been involved in the season that is so all-out."
"The Walking Dead" season 8 airs Sundays, at 9 p.m. on AMC.
