'The Walking Dead' Spoilers: Rick Grimes Not Losing His Hand After All
Last Sunday's episode of "The Walking Dead" featured a scene which made it appear that Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) would be losing his hand, which has recently been refuted by the series' showrunner.
After the "Thank You" episode that showcased Glenn's (Steven Yeun) apparent death, and showed how Rick would apparently lose his hand by reason of a zombie-blood infected machete, one of "The Walking Dead's" producers, Scott Gimple has said it wasn't going to happen.
Gimple told Cinemablend the machete wasn't infected and Rick is going to end up with some antibiotic ointment and a bandage on his cut in Season 6's Episode 4, "Here's Not Here," appearing to survive potentially turning into one of the walkers.
The twist in the show's storyline diverges considerably from the comics version, in which Rick actually loses his hand, making it one of his character's most distinctive features.
Lincoln had reportedly campaigned hard for the same thing to happen to his TV character and had been repeatedly turned down by the show's producers in the past.
When "Thank You" delivered two shockers last Sunday: Glenn's still questionable death, and Rick in danger of having his hand loped off to prevent zombie infection, audiences believed "The Walking Dead" would be staying true to the comics.
With Gimple's spoiler just three days before "Here's Not Here" airs on AMC, it appears Rick, who is the show's largest presence, will still be keeping the offended limb, and is fated to continue dual-handed in the succeeding episodes.
However, Gimple did admit that the fan theory involving humans getting infected by walker-contaminated weapons may be possible, and while it hasn't yet been used in the show, producers may simply surprise audiences with a scene involving the very same thing, only perhaps on another character not so important as Rick Grimes.
In the meantime, speculations remain rampant over whether Glenn remains alive or not, which audiences will discover when "The Walking Dead" returns Sunday night on November 1 at 9pm ET.
