'The Winds of Winter': Is 2018 The Year the Book Finally Comes Out?

The wait for "The Winds of Winter" continues with many losing hope that it will see the light of day this year.

Bestselling author George R. R. Martin is shooting for a 2018 release. Back in July, he revealed on his live journal Not A Blog that he is still "months away" from completing the next installment in the "A Song of Ice and Fire" series.

However, he did not provide an estimate of how long it is before he completes "The Winds of Winter" as he himself appears to be unsure of that as well, saying that he "still have good days and bad days, and that's all I care to say."

The sixth volume of the hit series is not the only project Martin is working on. He is also in the middle of writing a two-volume history of the Westeros set under the Targaryen dynasty.

It is titled "Fire and Blood" and he revealed that it is already "largely written." This means that while his priority is "Winds of Winter," it is not the only project that takes up his time.

Either way, it seems that fans will have a lot to look forward to when it comes to the "Game of Thrones" franchise with the abovementioned books set for late 2018 and early 2019.

This is a bigger deal for fans since the HBO adaptation of the book series is not coming anytime soon with reports suggesting a 2019 premiere. Add to that the fact that the show's next return to the small screen will mark its final.

Whether [Winds of Winter] or the first volume of [Fire and Blood] will be the first to hit the bookstores is hard to say at this juncture, but I do think you will have a Westeros book from me in 2018...and who knows, maybe two. A boy can dream.
