'The X-Files' Season 11 News: Mitch Pileggi Sheds Light on Mulder, Scully's Beef in New Trailer

The new trailer for "The X-Files" season 11 shows Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Walter Skinner (Mitch Pileggi) throwing a fit. In the new trailer, the two characters seem to be driving each other up the wall, which rarely happens in the show, considering they're buddies.

For the past seasons of "The X-Files," the two have worked together as Mulder and his partner, Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson), have gone around the world getting to the bottom of cases involving supernatural phenomena. While the two FBI agents fought together against ubiquitous monsters, extraterrestrial beings, or nasty politicians, Skinner had been behind their backs, even getting shot for them at one point.

The new trailer, however, reveals that there is going to be some tension between the two fan-favorite characters. The clip shows Skinner and Mulder literally getting on each other's nerves, with the Assistant Director even physically attacking Mulder. At one point in the teaser, Skinner tells his frenemy, "We need your help, even if we don't trust you."

In a recent interview with Pileggi, the actor revealed the nature of the duo's beef in the trailer. "It's about Scully," said the veteran "The X-Files" cast member. According to him, his character might have some admiration for Scully, leading him to have some resentment toward Mulder.

The actor also revealed that the spat, which will occur early in the new season, was actually brought down a notch during production. "It was supposed to be a lot more violent. Originally, what the stunt people had blocked was a real brawl. And we were all like, 'These two guys are friends. Unless they are in some kind of drug-induced state, I don't think they would behave like that.' So we pulled it back quite a bit," said Pileggi.

"The X-Files" season 11 premieres sometime next year on FOX.
