'The X-Files' Season 11 Release Date News: New Trailer Hints Many Character Comebacks; Gillian Anderson Hints Exit
The search is officially on for Scully (Gillian Anderson) and Mulder's (David Duchovny) son in "The X-Files" season 11.
A new trailer for the highly anticipated return of the science fiction hit was shown at the New York Comic Con (NYCC), hinting the greater significance of William this year.
As "The X-Files" creator Chris Carter revealed at the event via News.com.au, season 11 will explore the "father-son-mother relationship," ultimately promising that "you'll see more of William than you've seen in a long time."
It looks like the search for William in "The X-Files" season 11 will force Scully and Mulder to seek the help of Assistant FBI director Skinner (Mitch Pileggi) even with the chances of him turning against them.
In the trailer, he is seemingly seen with Cigarette Smoking Man (William B. Davis), who warns that the "civilization is in its final stages." The glimpse of the returning characters easily takes fans back to the show's original run.
Meanwhile, Anderson hinted in an interview with Screen Rant at the NYCC event that "The X-Files" season 11 could mark her final run as Scully. When asked if she is willing to return for another season of the series, she said:
No, no, I think this will be it for me.
The actress went on to say that she did "The X-Files" season 11 "because it felt like it wasn't over" and that "it didn't feel like we necessarily deliver everything the fans were expecting of us last time."
Anderson's exit is not set in stone though, with a FOX representative telling the abovementioned publication that the star "has not commented on returning as it's premature in that she is currently filming the new event series."
Also, when asked what she will miss about her "The X-Files" character, she hinted possibilities of changing her mind about leaving the show:
I don't know. You may need to talk to me in a few years about that once I finally shut the door. You know, there's always been this "maybe one more" thing hanging over, but when the door is finally shut, call me up and ask me that question again.
"The X-Files" season 11 premieres next year.
