'The Young and the Restless' Cast News and Spoilers: Phyllis Newman to Return

"The Young and the Restless" fans are still reeling over the "disappearance" of Adam Newman, but this week could see another cast shakeup, according to recent reports.

Adam Newman last appeared on "Y&R" in late January before Michael Muhney was fired from the soap opera. The actor's firing and the character's subsequent disapperance had "Y&R" fans up in arms, with some still boycotting the show over their disappointment. However, this week, viewers will be excited to see Phyllis almost one year after she went into a coma in August 2013.

According to "Y&R" star Peter Berman who portrays Jack Abbott, the future of the show will include Phyllis.

"Phyllis is going to get better one day," he told Soap Opera Network. "That's around the corner."

Phyllis was portrayed by Michelle Strafford who is expected to reprise her role. In addition to discussing Phyllis, Berman fielded questions surrounding a replacement for Muhney. While he did not confirm if a replacement for Adam had been found or not, he said that "sometimes replacements work," referring to himself.

Muhney's final episode saw Adam get into a car accident with Billy Abbott in Genoa City, and while Billy survived, Adam was not as lucky. However, Adam's wife Chelsea had doubts about his death since his remains were never found, and as it turns out, Adam is alive. Nevertheless, viewers are still waiting on answers about how Adam faked his own death, and more importantly, why.

In the meantime, "Y&R" show runners are reportedly searching for a replacement actor for Muhney as Adam as they continue to lay groundwork for the character's return. One report indicated that producers are seeking the "best actor" who the "audience will grow to love" since Adam will become "central to the show," according to RadarOnline.

Furthermore, show runners are carefully auditioning actors for the replacement role in an attempt to avoid a dramatic firing similar to Muhney's earlier this year.

"If there is even a hint of diva behavior, or drama, the role won't go to that person. Period," an insider told Radar. "Everyone wants to move on from that disaster."
