Theologians and Scientists Hold Interdisciplinary Conference

PHILADELPHIA -- Philadelphia's Metanexus Institute is holding its 2004 annual international conference, June 5-9 on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadeliphia.

The theme of this year’s conference is "Science and Religion in Context." More than 100 delegates from 27 countries, with diverse faith traditions and scientific disciplines will come together to examine foundational questions in the natural sciences and new approaches to the human sciences, all with the aim of discerning the whereto-and-why of humanity, cosmos, and the divine in the 21st century.

The conference will offer over 40 paper presentations and workshops that discuss theoretical problems and practical issues in the contemporary encounters between science and religion, led by keynote speakers such as George F.R. Ellis, University of Cape Town cosmologist and 2004 Templeton Prize Winner; J. Wentzel van Huyssteen, Princeton Theological Seminary theologian and 2004 Edinburgh Gifford Lecturer; and John R. McNeill, Georgetown University historian and author of "Something New Under the Sun: An Environmental History of the Twentieth-Century World."
