Third Day Returns to Musical Roots
Chart topping Christian Rock Band Third Day (Mac Powell, Mark Lee, Tai Anderson, and David Carr) released its 11th studio album, entitled Move, Tuesday.
Reminiscent of their Time record, the 12-track album does not disappoint fans with its soulful, exhilarating, and of course, rock hard sound.
When it came to a follow up to its 2008 American Music Award win and album Revelation, Third Day re-visited its original sound and inspirations.
Lead vocalist Mac Powell told Reuters, "We loved the sound of 'Revelation,' but knew we wanted to return to our musical roots. Our producer, Paul Moak (Mat Kearney, Matt Maher), did a great job of capturing the classic Third Day sound that our fans love, but at the same time pushing us in directions that we haven't [gone in] before."
Musically influenced by southern rock artist Lynyrd Skynyrd and other artists such as U2 and Rich Mullins, Move is sure to make waves on the music charts.
"'Move' is a down-home, American grassroots record with a lot more gospel elements than we've ever had before," Powell explained.
The album was recorded in the band's new, Atlanta-based state-of-the-art studio "The Quarry," which allowed for much more freedom in their song choices and their sound. They incorporated worship music in the latest album.
Acoustic guitarist Mark Lee commented, "In sports they talk about having a home field advantage. Having done [Revelation] in L.A., we were completely out of our comfort zone. There is something positive to be said for that, but there's also a whole lot to be said about being in a comfortable creative environment, the four of us getting in a room together to do what we do. With this studio, that's what we have."
Powell said the album also includes songs for people inside and outside of the church.
"'Make Your Move' is definitely coming from the view of someone outside of the church saying, 'If this is really true, you need to prove this to me because right now I need something real in my life," he said.
Third Day is a multi-platinum selling rock band that has managed to garner 25 No. 1 singles and armloads of Grammy and Dove Awards.
Currently on the Make A Difference Tour 2010, Third Day will be in Colorado Springs, Colo., Oct. 21.
