'This Is Us' Season 2 Plot News, Air Date: Creator Dan Fogelman Teases More Jack Time, 'Surprising' Storyline for Kevin
"This Is Us" will return later this month, and creator Dan Fogelman has confirmed that a lot of the second season's focus will be on Jack (Milo Ventimiglia).
As fans know by now, Jack dies at some point in the show, which is why he is not in the present timeline. Specific details about his death are unknown, but season 2 will shed some more light on it. Additionally, Jack's childhood will also be explored.
"A lot of Jack stuff is coming," Fogelman told Us Weekly in an interview. He continued to say that several questions will be answered in the upcoming season.
The show's composer, Siddhartha Khosla, previously teased that Jack will be more "broken" in season 2, and the former had the perfect old instrument to accompany the score for him. But just because the new season will have a lot of Jack in it, that does not mean that the other members of the Pearson family will be neglected.
"[Kevin] has a very interesting storyline this year that I think is going to be surprising," Fogelman teased on Us Weekly.
The first season of the NBC series already delved into the relationship between Rebecca (Mandy Moore) and Randall (Sterling K. Brown). And while there will still be more of that in the new season, Fogelman also revealed that the Pearson matriarch will be spending some quality time with her daughter, Kate (Chrissy Metz).
"I think we've explored a lot of Randall and Rebecca already in the show, so we're actually moving along — and while we'll still continue to explore that relationship and what happened there, we're actually doing a lot with Rebecca and Kate this year," Fogelman said.
He later on added: "[Kate's] grown up in the shadow of her statuesque mother who sang, and she's trying to sing. So there's a lot of complicated stuff that we'll be diving into."
One thing is for sure: fans had better have their tissue boxes nearby when the new season of "This Is Us" premieres on Sept. 26 at 9 p.m. EDT on NBC.
