This Week in Christian History: A Reformer Is Born, Vatican Encyclical on Birth Control, and Thomas Jefferson
Protestant Reformer Ulrich Zwingli is Born – Jan. 1, 1484
This week marks the anniversary of the birth of Protestant Reformer Ulrich Zwingli, who was born in Wildhaus, Switzerland, the son of a village magistrate.
A priest by profession, Zwingli became an influential Protestant leader who used preaching and literature to spread his views among the Swiss cantons.
Despite having the label Protestant, he periodically found himself at odds with German contemporary Martin Luther, especially on issues like the significance of the sacraments.
