This week in Christian history: Billy Graham holds integrated crusade, Thomas Chalmers, Moody renamed
Chicago Evangelization Society renamed Moody Bible Institute – March 21, 1900
This week marks the anniversary of when the Chicago Evangelization Society, which had been founded in 1886, was officially renamed the Moody Bible Institute.
The new name was in honor of Dwight L. Moody, a notable 19th century preacher who helped found the Chicago Evangelization Society and had died the year before.
“Moody's passion for honoring God's call on his life and his heart for serving others is the foundation for each of Moody's ministries,” the institute explains on its website.
“From its beginnings and through today, Moody Bible Institute has followed the example of its founder to be a practical, compassionate pioneer in training a multicultural, multi-generational worldwide network of influencers to impact the world for Christ.”
