Wife of Dwight Moody dies – Oct. 10, 1903
This week marks the anniversary of when Emma Revell Moody, the wife of famed 19th century American evangelist Dwight L. Moody, died at age 60.
A native of London, England, whose family immigrated to the United States when she was a child, Revell met her future husband while still a teenager, with the two marrying when she was 19.
“No wife could mean more to her husband than she did. She was wholeheartedly with him in his Christian convictions and in his various soul-winning and welfare activities,” wrote Arthur Percy Fitt in a 1936 book.
“She taught a Bible class in the local church, where her knowledge and wide experience made themselves felt in a quiet way. She traveled with Mr. Moody unless good reasons prevented, and helped with his heavy correspondence. He always relied on her judgment, and valued her for her full worth.”
