This Week in Christian History: Gutenberg, Francis Schaeffer, Hour of Power
Francis Schaeffer Born - January 30, 1912
This week marks the anniversary of when notable Christian author, theologian and Presbyterian pastor Francis A. Schaeffer was born.
A native of Germantown, Pennsylvania, Schaeffer authored several books and along with his wife Edith founded a ministry organization based in Switzerland called L'Abri in 1955.
"Schaeffer often railed against the middle-class evangelical mindset that placed an emphasis on 'personal peace and affluence' and became an intellectual hero to Christian counter-culture figures," noted The Gospel Coalition.
"Francis published eighteen books and booklets, most of which came out of lectures and talks he had been giving since the 1950s, that sold over 2.5 million copies in the U.S."
