'Thor 3' Release Date, Cast Rumors: Is 'Thor 3' Going for Comedy with Potential Director?
To say that Marvel Studios has its hands full right now would be an understatement. Now that "Captain America: Civil War" has already wrapped up, many would think that the famed studio would now get a bit of a breather. However, since the third installment of "Captain America" actually triggers the start of Phase 3 of Marvel's Cinematic Universe, things are just about to get crazier than ever.
Next in line would be the start of production for "Doctor Strange," followed by "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2." The much-buzzed "Spider-Man" reboot is also in the works now, and it seems that "Thor: Ragnarok" is not getting its focus as well. However, unlike the previous movies mentioned, the third Thor movie is still without a director. Although screenwriters have already been officially confirmed as early as 2014, Kevin Feige did assure fans that the announcement of the director would soon follow.
Now, according to THR, one of the potential directors being considered is Taika Waititi. Waititi is best known for his critically acclaimed "What We Do in the Shadows." It is a vampire mockumentary that Waititi had also starred in. It is said that because of this film that a certain sense of humor will definitely be mixed into the upcoming "Thor" movie. It isn't new for Marvel to hire comedic directors. This is not a surprise as anyone who has seen Marvel movies in the past would realize that humor has somewhat been an essential element.
Earlier reports suggested that Waititi was to supervise the script writing process and even revise if needed. However, it seems quite plausible that he will be calling the shots for this one. Fans have given a mixed reaction to this news, but many are still willing to stay positive that Waititi will be able to give them a worthwhile "Thor 3" if he does take over the reins. Other directors that are being considered for "Ragnarok" are "Zombieland's" Ruben Fleischer, "Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story's" Rawson Marshal Thurber, and "Goosebumps'" Rob Letterman.
"Thor: Ragnarok" is set to hit theaters on Nov. 3, 2017.
