'Thor: Ragnarok' Movie News: Tess Thompson Replaces Nathalie Portman as Thor's Love Interest
Actress Tessa Thompson has been included in the cast of "Thor: Ragnarok." According to a report of Heroic Hollywood, the actress will play the love interest of Thor.
However, Thompson will not simply provide romance in the movie as her role is not just the Norse god's object of affection; she will have superpowers, too. Reportedly, the role will pave the entry of Thompson in other Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) films.
Prior to filming her scenes for the upcoming "Thor" movie, though, Thompson will need to shoot her part for the movie "Annihilation," which is another Alex Garland-directed movie after "Ex-Machina." In "Annihilation," Thompson will work with Natalie Portman, who, incidentally, also played Thor's love interest in the past installments of "Thor" movies. With Thompson's entry to "Thor: Ragnarok," Heroic Hollywood confirmed that Portman will no longer be part of the movie.
Apart from Thompson, "Thor: Ragnarok" is also introducing a character to be breathed to life by actress Cate Blanchett. The third installment of the "Thor" movie will also feature anew the characters of Mark Ruffalo and Tom Hiddleston as the Hulk and Loki, respectively. Familiar characters, such as Odin, Sif, Warriors Three, and many more, are also set to return.
Currently, the movie is shooting scenes taken in the supposed Asgard and space. Come July, filming of the scenes in its interpretation of Ragnarok will commence. After the last "Thor" movie getting a lukewarm response from the public, thanks to the disappointing creative of the movie, Marvel has tasked director Taika Waititi to helm "Thor: Ragnarok." Allegedly, this movie targets bolstering Thor's place as a superhero in MCU.
Meanwhile, director Anthony Russo has said that he is excited bringing back Chris Hemsworth's Thor character in the upcoming "Avengers: Infinity War" movie because of the changes that is being done to the character, which could refer to "Thor: Ragnarok." As to what the changes that are introduced in the character, fans can only wait and see.
"I'm excited to work with Thor… they're doing some really interesting stuff with 'Ragnarok' and where he's gonna be at the beginning of 'Infinity War' is gonna be a very interesting place and I think very profound. I think he's gonna have a real emotional motivation after that," Russo said in an interview with Comic Book.
"Thor: Ragnarok" hits the theaters on November 3 this year.
