'Thor: Ragnarok' Rumors: Cate Blanchett to Play Valkyrie?
In what could be one of the most exciting news that has ever hit the "Thor: Ragnarok" production, it is rumored that Cate Blanchett may be the latest star to enter the Marvel world of heroes.
According to Variety, sources say Blanchett is currently in talks for a female lead role in the upcoming Marvel movie. It is unclear which role she will be playing, but fans speculate that she may be cast for the role of Valkyrie, Thor's (Chris Hemsworth) old friend back in the days.
It is worth noting that Marvel has had a knack for getting critically acclaimed actors and actresses for its biggest movies, and if the rumor proves to be true, the giant film company is making a good decision.
Blanchett is not only an Oscar winner but she is on the way for another Oscar nomination for her performance in Todd Haynes' "Carol." Aside from the Oscars, Blanchett has also bagged two Academy Awards, three Golden Globes Awards, three British Academy Awards, and three Screen Actors Guild Awards.
The 46-year-old actress is very well known for her portrayal of Katharine Hepburn in "The Aviator" and she has also established a name in the stage play industry.
Meanwhile, Marvel remains mum on the hot rumor, and despite the excitement that fans have expressed over the news, it seems Blanchett's side has not yet settled on a deal for the hit movie.
Valkyrie, also known by the name Brunnhilde, is an Asgardian by birth and is a member of Marvel's "Defenders." What's interesting about the character is she once sparked a love affair with Thor, which only makes Blanchett's nomination for the role much more anticipated.
Fans would surely love to see Blanchett and Hemsworth coming together in the upcoming movie to probably reignite their love. On the other hand, just the two of them being allies would be enough.
"Thor: Ragnarok" is slated for release on Nov. 3, 2017.
