'Thor: Ragnarok' Update: Cate Blanchett Rumored To Play As Female Villain
"Thor: Ragnarok" is still far away from showing but fans are already getting some early scoops on the details of the movie. The rumor mill regarding the third installment of the "Thor" series is jam-packed but the latest one to hit headlines is about award-winning actress Cate Blanchett joining the cast.
According to a report by Variety, the Australian actress is currently in talks with the studio to play one of the female leads in the movie. Although Marvel made no comment about it, Blanchett just might be doing her first major comic book role in "Ragnarok." Pop Sugar also reported that Marvel has been on the hunt for a "badass female." Apparently, the Oscar winner is a perfect match to the description.
It's not known though which role she would be playing if ever the rumor is true but sources say that she will be playing the character of a villain. Movie Pilot rounded up the possible roles that Blanchett may play and the list includes Valkyrie, an Asgardian character who is already confirmed to be part of the third film of the "Thor" franchise. Another possible character that she might play is that of Amora the Enchantress, the nemesis of Thor and one of the most powerful sorceresses in the Marvel universe. She may also be Hela, the Queen of Death and child of Loki.
Currently, Blanchett is busy with the awards season as her latest movie, "Carol," has been receiving nominations, according to iSchoolGuide. Her acting performance and the movie's period romance theme has really captured the attention of many. If she does join the "Thor: Ragnarok" cast, her presence will add more star power into the already star-studded cast composed of Chris Hemsworth, fellow Oscar winner Natalie Portman, Kat Dennings, Mark Ruffalo and Tom Hiddleston.
"Thor: Ragnarok" is set to premiere in theaters on Nov. 3, 2017.
