Thousands to Gather for Southern Calif. Harvest July 10

Only a few days remain before Harvest Crusades with Greg Laurie returns to Southern California July 10 for its 15th year. The crusade event, called the Southern California Harvest, will be held at Anaheim’s Angel Stadium and will feature the return of the Summerfest youth festival and an evening “A Night Worship” program.

Originally designed as a launch event for the now-postponed Billy Graham Crusade in Pasadena, the Southern California Harvest will continue to serve as an evangelistic outreach to the community, celebrating its 15th year of crusade events in the Southland. Harvest Crusades, known for presenting traditional Christian beliefs in a “culturally relevant way” draws on unconventional methods like current events, ultra-hip Christian music, Extreme sports and Internet technology.

The Southern California Harvest will combine “best of” elements from previous Harvest Crusade programs such as the Summerfest and “A Night of Worship”, both to be held inside Angel Stadium. The Summerfest, which is making its second appearance will feature Extreme sports such as BMX and Vert Skate, a SportsZone and KidsZone, and pro-athletes Jimmie McGuire, Dave Demangos, Thad Miller, Lance Mountain, and Chad Kagy. Summerfest music will feature Tree 63, Skillet, The Elms, and By the Tree.

The evening “A Night of Worship” program will feature a message from Riverside, California pastor and evangelist Greg Laurie, and music from UK-based worship leader Matt Redman, Dove Award-winner Fernando Ortega, and singer/songwriter Tommy Walker. In addition, a 1000-voice community choir will perform. The program will be broadcasted live on the Internet and will be interpreted and translated into Spanish, Korean, Arabic, Vietnamese, and sign language.

Since 1990, Harvest Crusades has drawn more than three million people to stadiums and arenas in the US, Australia, and New Zealand. Greg Laurie, who founded the evangelistic Harvest Crusade events in 1990, also serves as senior pastor of Harvest Christian Fellowship, one of the 15 largest churches in the US.

The most recent Harvest Crusade event was held in Honolulu, Hawaii, June 24-27. The event drew 21,700 attendants and saw 1,161 decisions for Christ.
