Tiger Woods Nears Abu Dhabi Victory
Tiger Woods has moved to within touching distance of his first victory in a full-field event for more than two years, as he plays some of his best golf in recent times in the Abu Dhabi Championship on Saturday.
Woods was in impressive form as he hit a six-under-par 66 to tie with Britain's Robert Rock in the overall lead on 11-under-par 205.
Sweden's Peter Hanson offered the best round at the course for the week though, with a 64, helping him into third place on 207. Britain's Rory McIlroy (68) and Paul Lawrie (68), as well as Italian Francesco Molinari (66) are also tied in third place with 207.
The exciting contest has heated up with the top 14 players now separated by just four shots overall.
Woods, who last month won the Chevron World Challenge limited-field event in California, has kept his feet firmly on the ground though despite his impressive display.
Woods said, "I was just kind of consistent today. I didn't do a whole lot wrong and didn't do a whole lot right. I played methodically, just plotted my way round the golf course and the birdies just piled up."
Sunday will see more than a dozen players fight it out for the win, and Woods knows he will have to remain aggressive if he is to take his first victory in a full-field event for two years.
"There are so many guys up there I'm going to have to post a good number," Woods said. "It's not like I can just go round and shoot par."
