4. He's not married 

Scott, now 57, is currently unmarried and his status could make him the first lifelong bachelor to serve in the Oval Office since James Buchanan. Speaking to Politico Magazine in 2018, Scott predicted that “in the right time, I will meet Mrs. Right, and she’ll want to have a couple kids.”

“As a poor kid growing up, the most important thing for me to do was take care of my mom,” he added. “And until I had that accomplished, starting a new family was just not an option for me.”

Scott’s profile in Politico Magazine detailed how “Scott began looking to settle down” in his 40s and “just as things got serious with a girlfriend, the 1st District seat opened—and it ultimately became clear that marriage and Congress would not mix.”

He told the publication that he wanted to have six children of his own and suggested that “he struggles with regrets at having prioritized politics over love.” 

Five years later, Scott told NBC News’ Tom Llamas shortly after announcing his presidential campaign that “there’s always time for … a great relationship with a wonderful woman,” adding: “I thank God that that is happening.” He did not elaborate further, concluding the interview by stating: “I’ll leave it there.”
