Tim Tebow Not Appearing on 'Dancing With the Stars'

Tim Tebow will not be on next season's "Dancing With the Stars" show, the Denver Broncos quarterback confirmed, but fans of the dancing competition can still hold onto hope that the NFL star may join the show one day.

Rumors of Tebow potentially joining DWTS were sparked when war veteran and season 13 champion J.R. Martinez shared with Celebuzz.com that he had met Tebow in Indianapolis during Super Bowl weekend and talked to him about the ABC reality series.

"I actually did come across Tim Tebow, and we chatted about (DWTS) for a second," Martinez revealed. "I thought he'd do pretty well on the show!

"He said, 'Maybe in a year' … That's pretty much what he said," the current champion added.

Moving quickly to squash those rumors, however, Broncos spokesman Patrick Smyth came out with a direct statement on the matter, The Wrap.com reported.

"Tim does not have any interest in participating in the show. He is focused on preparing for the 2012 season with the Denver Broncos," Smyth said.

In truth, it did not appear to be any real possibility that Tebow would cut short his rising NFL career to join the dancing show just yet, but if Martinez's comments are anything to go by, it may be a possibility in the future.

The quarterback would not be the first football player to compete on the DWTS show. Former NFL running back Emmitt Smith and Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward have each won the competition. Other NFL players, like Jerry Rice, Jason Taylor and Warren Sapp, have finished in second place on the dancing competition.

Also, DWTS performer Karina Smirnoff made a wish on her 34th birthday that she wanted Tim Tebow to dance on "Dancing with the Stars," after Tebow's football season ended with a loss in the playoffs to the New England Patriots.

"He can run, jump, pass, throw touchdowns," she stated. "All [that] is missing is to see if he has the dance skills. That would make him an all-around athlete and someone that I would love to dance with on the show."

Karen L. Gates, owner of the Fred Astaire Dance Studio in Chagrin Falls, Ohio, even explained that although Tebow's height and weight might pose certain challenges for him when dancing, he also has many advantages, such as his ability to face mental challenges and memorize plays.
