Tim Tebow's NFL dreams were dashed Saturday after he was released from the Philadelphia Eagles, but the Christian quarterback is leaning on the Word of God and is publicly expressing his gratitude instead of any disappointment.

On Saturday, the world learned that Tebow, 28, did not make the Eagles' 53-man roster that is being led by coach Chip Kelly. The move might have come as a surprise to some after Matt Barkley, the quarterback competing against Tebow for a third string spot, signed on to the Arizona Cardinals.

Although Tebow was passed over for a position that has a vacancy, the NFL hopeful handled what many would view as an upset with grace.

"Thanks @Eagles and Coach Kelly for giving me the opportunity to play the game I love! Romans 8:28 #Blessed," Tebow tweeted Saturday.

Days before tweeting Romans 8:28 which reads: "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose, (KJV)." Tebow took to Instagram to share Proverbs 3:5-6. The passage reads: "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths. (KJV)

Kelly opened up about some of the improvements needed by Tebow that would be necessary to sign him onto the Eagles as the team's third string quarterback.

"Tim's really progressed but we didn't feel like he was good enough to be the three right now," Kelly said, according to a CBS Sports report. "He just needs to get out there and get more reps."

Before he was cut from the team, Tebow said he was trying to improve but knew that he did not control whether he made the Eagles team or not.

"That's not up to me. I just try to go out there and do what I'm coached and try to improve every day and compete," Tebow said, according to CBS. "I've said this a lot of times to you guys and I really genuinely mean it: I'm not going to worry about what I can't control. It's a blessing being able to come out here and play the game I love."

Throughout the process of trying to make the Eagles' roster, Tebow never worried about whether he would play in a regular season game for the team.

"That's not something I worry about to be honest. I worry about what I can control and that's come out and improve every day, enjoy the process, count your blessings and work extremely hard," Tebow said in a www.NJ.com report after his football practice Monday. "You know, something I always try to practice is be anxious for nothing, but let your request be known to God. That's how I try to handle that.''

Tebow has proved to be a strong college football player after he helped the University of Florida Gators win a national championship as the team's starting quarterback in 2008. He was also on the team when it won a championship in 2006 and was the first college sophomore to win a Heisman Trophy in 2007 which honors the best football player of a season.

Although he has struggled to find his place in the NFL since being signed to the New York Jets in 2012, the Christian athlete previously spoke about being defined by more than just football.

"In the end, football is just a silly game. Greatness comes from serving," Tebow told a crowd of students at a Liberty University convocation in 2013. "... You want to be great? Be a servant. You want to be great? Humble yourself."
