Tim Tebow Should Be Jaguars QB, Jacksonville Councilman Says
Tim Tebow may not have an NFL team to play for at the moment, but one Jacksonville, Fla councilman has jumped on the bandwagon of the city's fans petitioning for the Christian QB to join their team.
Tebow, the 26-year-old professional football quarterback who is also an Evangelical Christian, was the subject of a formal city council session recently. Don Redman, a Jacksonville city councilman, requested that the Jacksonville Jaguars sign Tebow who grew up in the city.
While the council session initially began to discuss funding for new scoreboards at the Jaguars' EverBank Field, Redman made sure to inquire about Tebow to the NFL team lobbyist Paul Harden, according to Jacksonville Business Journal.
"If you want to sell tickets, get Tebow in there," Redman said at the meeting, according to The Journal. "Draw a crowd."
Although Redman is an admitted friend of Tebow's family, he has insisted that he wants the QB in Jacksonville for business purposes.
"I don't know why they wouldn't consider it," Redman said according to sportsworldnews.com. "It would be as good for the city as the jumbotron."
Signs and billboards have been making their rounds on the internet, calling for the 26-year-old NFL free agent to be signed to the Jacksonville Jaguars. One Billboard in Jacksonville pleads with the Jaguars owner Shahid Khan to pick up Tebow.
"Mr. Kahn, sign Tebow and we will fill the stadium," the Billboard reads, according to CBS Sports. "Signed, Jacksonville."
Before a college football game that took place in the Jaguars' home stadium last week, an airplane carried a banner calling for Tebow to join the team. The image of the banner made its rounds on Twitter.
"Tebow to the Jags," the banner read.
Tebow went from being a starting quarterback who led the Denver Broncos to a playoff run in 2012, to being signed on with the Jets last March where he was mostly utilized for special teams options. Tebow only completed eight pass attempts, six completions, 32 rushes and 102 yards with no touchdowns for the Jets before head coach Rex Ryan released a statement saying things did not work out with the Christian athlete.
Although he joined the New England Patriots earlier this season, things did not work out and he was cut from the team. Steve Clarkson, Tebow's personal QB instructor, has been vocal about Tebow getting another shot in the NFL.
Tebow has remained positive about his experience after being dropped by the Jets, despite the media questioning his future in the NFL.
"I may not know where I'm going next, but I know what's guiding me," Tebow said previously according to naplesnews.com.
