Tim Tebow, Terrell Owens Pay Their Respects to Junior Seau
After news broke that former Charger's quarterback Junior Seau had committed suicide last week, Christian professional football stars Terrell Owens and Tim Tebow reacted along with many others in the industry.
Tebow, 23-year-old New York Jets player, said he was saddened by the news of Seau's passing, since he looked up to the former NFL quarterback.
"So many young athletes like myself looked up to him and watched him," Tebow said in a WJXT-TV report.
The popular Christian athlete said he remembered meeting Seau for the first time.
"I met him one time after he came to the Florida-Georgia game when he played then and just had the best time with him afterwards," Tebow said.
Owens, 38-year-old wide receiver for the Allen Wranglers football team in the IFL, empathized with 43-year-old Seau since he once admitted to having suicidal thoughts.
"I think there's a lot of people that have been at that point. Me, other players," Owens said in an ESPN report. "People look at us as invincible beings when we're playing such a macho game. A game that we play as kids but we're playing as grown men."
The wideout said it was hard to watch Seau's mother in pain when she spoke to the public about her son's death. However, Owens also said that nobody will know what the fallen football star went through before the period of his death.
"My heart goes out to his family.. I went through it dude, I saw his mom's interview," Owens said. "Dude, that's gut-wrenching to know a mom has to go through that. Honestly dude, I've been in that situation where you do feel like giving up because nobody understands the world that you live in."
Although Tebow did not specifically identify with Seau's feelings publicly, the quarterback said he would be praying for the deceased football player and his family.
"I'm just extremely sad for him and his family and wish him support and I know I'll be praying for him," Tebow said.
