Tim Tebow Traded to Patriots, Completes First Practice
Tim Tebow was seen practicing with the New England Patriots for the first time on Tuesday since being cut from the New York Jets and repeatedly answering questions of whether or not he would ever play again in the NFL.
It is not yet certain if Tebow will make it to training camp, and it is not yet known where the former Heisman trophy winner will fit in with the Patriots offense.
During a press conference, coach Bill Belichick said the focus is on football and when asked where Tebow will fit in Belichick simply stated, "I don't know. We'll see."
Two people with knowledge of the deal told the Associated Press that Tebow was signed for two years but not assured money. One person says he will make the veteran's minimum salary, $630,000 in 2013, with incentives.
"It's such an honor to be a Patriot and play for coach Belichick and coach McDaniels, learn under Tom and to be a part of this great franchise and part of a very successful franchise," Tebow told reporters. "I found that out firsthand. I lost to them several times."
Tebow went from being a starting quarterback who led the Denver Broncos to the playoffs run in 2012, to being signed on with the Jets last March where he was mostly utilized for special teams options. Tebow only threw eight pass attempts with six completions, 32 rushes and 102 yards with no touchdowns for the Jets before head coach Rex Ryan released a statement saying things did not work out with the Christian athlete.
However, some people lashed out at the Jets' decision to bring on Tebow and not utilize him at the QB position. Steve Clarkson, Tebow's personal QB instructor, has been vocal about Tebow getting another shot in the NFL.
"I would hope whoever, wherever he ends up that they give him an opportunity, and I think if they do, they'll be pleasantly surprised," Clarkson told The Newark Star-Ledger earlier this year. "I think the guy still can play."
