'Timeless' Season 2 Spoilers: Lucy Takes the Lead in New Missions

Lucy (Abigail Spencer) is ready to take a more active role, whichever side she chooses, in the next installment of "Timeless."

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Spencer revealed that her character would undergo a noticeable change in the new season. According to her, if Lucy was more of a reactive character in the first installment, this time around, she will be more proactive and take the lead.

Lucy received a huge shocker in the last finale when her mother revealed that the Preston family had been part of the Rittenhouse for centuries. Carol (Susanna Thompson) said it was time for Lucy to take the reigns and lead the clan to prosperity.

"It's going to be more of what you loved about season 1 and some really cool shifts," Spencer said. "We're going to go deeper into the history, and Lucy is going to have to deal with the fact that her mom is a super baddie."

The actress further noted that fans should expect Lucy to grow. According to her, "Season 1 Lucy, things were happening to her, 'Oh my gosh, time machines! Time travel!' and she was trying to keep it all together. She was a very reactive and strung along character, and I think she's going to be a more proactive character now in making things happen in season 2."

Meanwhile, there are speculations that Team Time's mission to retrieve the machine will be fraught with difficulties. There may even be times when the members will ask themselves if it is better to destroy the contraption to prevent the enemy from succeeding in its mission.

The Rittenhouse plans to use the time machine to change history and take over the world. The organization is more powerful than Wyatt (Matt Latner) and the others think, so stopping the cult may prove to be impossible, especially with the added complication of Lucy's family. She is expected to choose which side she will be on in the looming battle.

NBC has not yet released any updates about "Timeless" season 2, but the show is expected to return in 2018.
