'Timeless' Season 2: Lucy to Choose Between Love and Family

Lucy (Abigail Spencer) will be in a difficult spot as she chooses between love or family in the next season of "Timeless."

Fans of the NBC series will probably get their wish to see the two main characters get together in season 2. Showrunner Shawn Ryan previously revealed that Wyatt (Matt Lanter) is finally ready to consider a relationship with his partner Lucy. After the death of his wife, Wyatt retreated further into his shell and did not let anyone get close to him. Lucy was an exception. He found himself attracted to her. Their many adventures together made it clear to him that he was falling in love with her. The pain from his past, however, stopped him from making the first move.

During the finale, viewers saw how Wyatt appeared to be relying on Lucy more and more. For the first time in a long while, he seemed to be looking forward to a future with her.

Unfortunately, while Wyatt may be ready, Lucy will likely have too many things on her mind to prioritize romance. It was finally revealed that her mother, Carol (Susanna Thompson), is an important member of Rittenhouse and that she has been grooming Lucy to take her place.

In a February interview with TVLine, series creator Eric Kripke revealed that Lucy would have to decide, ultimately, if she would follow in her mother's footsteps. In the event that she does, this will pose as a major threat to her budding relationship with Wyatt. At the end, they may just break each other's heart.

"At first, we thought it was just a typical, overbearing mother. Now we realize that there was a very meticulous plan in place. Mom's plan for Lucy is to be the primary team member to take back the mothership in Rittenhouse's name and make specific and surgical changes to history to make the present far more advantageous for that organization. So she's their great white hope, and she's been, unbeknownst to her, meticulously conditioned to be that person," Kripke said in the TVLine interview.

NBC has not yet released any update on "Timeless" season 2.
