5 things to know about the Titan submersible disappearance

Noises 

On Wednesday, the U.S. Coast Guard announced that the Canadian P-3 aircraft had detected underwater noises in the search area, and remotely operated vehicles had focused efforts on the sound's location.

The Coast Guard confirmed that the P-3 aircraft data was shared with its U.S. Navy experts for further analysis to use in future search plans.

"With respect to the noises, specifically, we don't know what they are, to be frank with you," Coast Guard Capt. Jamie Frederick said during a Wednesday briefing. "We're searching in the area where the noises were detected."

Officials involved in the search told The Wall Street Journal that a military acoustic detection system heard what the U.S. Navy believed was the Titan submersible implosion hours after the submersible began its voyage Sunday. 

A U.S. defense official told the outlet that the Navy began listening for the sub after it lost its communications. Still, the officials couldn't say for sure whether the sounds came from the Titan.
