Titans Live Action Series Casts Beastboy
Ryan Potter will be voicing Beastboy in the upcoming DC live-action series "Titans" to premiere on yet unnamed digital service. He will be joined by previously announce cast members Brenton Thwaites who plays Robin, Anna Diop as Starfire, Minka Kelly as Dove, Alan Ritchson as Hawk.
Fans know Potter as the voice behind Hiro Hamada, the protagonist in Disney's Big Hero 6. Now he will play the role of another teenage hero in the form of Garfield Logan/Beastboy.
For those unfamiliar with the DC Universe or haven't been able to catch the two iterations of Cartoon Network's "Teen Titans," Beastboy has the power to turn into any animal he wishes. His green hair, eyes, and skin, resulted from the serum injected to him by his late geneticist parents in order save him from the deadly Sakutia disease while they were living in Africa.
He soon joined the Teen Titans serving as the comic relief character of the group although this is only a façade hiding the deep pain and guilt of not being able to save his parents. He maintains a close friendship with fellow titan Cyborg a friendship that is carried over in the many iterations of the story.
The potential for a live-action "Titans" series was first announced back in September of 2014 and three months later, a pilot written by Akiva Goldsman and Marc Haimes had been ordered. The series would follow Dick Grayson a.k.a. Robin emerging from Batman's shadow to become Nightwing.
Warner Bros. has announced that the series will premiere on DC Comics' own direct-to-consumer digital service. The series will be produced by Akiva Goldsman, Geoff Johns, Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter for Weed Road Pictures and Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros Television.
Aside from the core group of heroes, Alan Ritchson and Minka Kelly will star in "Titans" as recurring characters with the option to become regulars in season 2.
