TLC Reunion to Feature Left Eye Hologram?
Grammy award-winning girl group TLC is set to reunite this Summer and reports claim performances will feature a hologram of deceased singer Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes.
The group, which has sold more that 65 million albums worldwide, will perform live for the first time in a decade. Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins and Rozonda "Chilli" Thomas have been confirmed for the VH1-presented 2013 Mixtape Festival at Hersey Park Stadium in Pennsylvania on July 26 and 27.
"The hologram is something we talked about and thought about years ago. Obviously timing is everything but we're definitely talking about it," Thomas was quoted by Mail Online.
Festival goers will see Lopes, who died in 2002, virtually appear on stage and Thomas, 42, spoke about the idea in 2012. The hologram will reportedly be similar to that of the late Tupac Shakur, whose virtual appearance wowed fans at the 2012 Coachella music festival.
"It will be hard on us but I certainly think our fans would love to see it. We would definitely be the first group to do it. It's great but spooky at the same time but we're definitely thinking about it," she said.
The duo will reportedly also release a new album and executive produce a VH1 made-for-TV movie later this year.
Rapper Lil Mama has allegedly been been cast as Lopes in the VH1 biopic. A spokesperson for VH1 confirmed that the biopic is slated to air on the network this fall, according to MTV.
Lopes, who died at age 30, was renowned for wearing condom eye patches and rapping about the importance of safe sex. The rapper was killed in a car crash in La Ceiba, Honduras and Watkins, 43, revealed that Lopes' April 25th death anniversary is always difficult.
"The word anniversary means a celebration. For us, her death will never be a celebration, it's still something that hurts," Watkins said in a statement.
"Lisa is our sister. You never get over losing a family member," Thomas said adding. "We love her and we miss her and that isn't ever going to change."
The group, once hailed as the best-selling female R&B group of all time by VH1, dominated music charts throughout the 90s and early 2000s with hit like "Creep" and "Waterfalls."
