Todd Palin Endorses Newt Gingrich for President
Todd Palin, the husband of 2008 vice president nominee, Sarah Palin, told ABC News on Monday that he is endorsing Newt Gingrich for President.
Gingrich spokesman R.C. Hammond told Fox News the endorsement is "a tremendous boost from an influential conservative that will help advance Newt's case in New Hampshire as a Reagan conservative. It's evidence that those who want to break up the status quo in Washington are putting their support behind Newt Gingrich."
Palin told ABC News that he has not yet spoken to the Republican presidential candidate or any member of his campaign, but said he respects Gingrich for the public scrutiny he endured in the 1990s as Speaker of the House. Palin likened Gingrich’s past plight to that of his wife’s during her run for vice president.
Palin added that he doesn’t see Gingrich as one of your typical “beltway types” and that the candidate has the ability to overcome obstacles and move up in the polls, showing he is a survivor.
Mr. Palin did not take jabs at any of the other Republican candidates and said his “hat is off to everyone” in the race.
Sarah Palin has yet to endorse any Republican presidential candidate. "I'm still in that process with probably 70 percent of Americans trying to decide," Sarah Palin recently told FOX News.
Senator John McCain, who chose Sarah Palin as his running mate in 2008, announced his endorsement of Mitt Romney for president last week, following the Iowa caucus.
