Toddler's Abortion Survival Photo, Inspired by '180 Movie,' Goes Viral on Facebook
An image starring a kid with Down syndrome has been one of the most popular photos on Facebook as social media users extensively shared the image of the young boy holding a sign that describes how he survived abortion.
The sign reads: "I may not be perfect but I'm happy. I am God's handiwork and I bear His image. I am blessed. I am the 10 percent of children born with Down syndrome who survived Roe v. Wade."
Referencing the "Occupy Wall Street" movement, the sign speaks to supporters claiming they are the 99 percent of Americans who do not belong to the small U.S. mega-rich population. However, the sign is specifically referring to the 10 percent of children with Down syndrome in a world where the average abortion rate for affected children is above 90 percent.
Inspiring pro-life mindsets across the globe, the viral photo of Boaz Reigstad has garnered thousands of shares and likes from pro-lifers everywhere including many who "liked" the image on "Let's Find 100,000 People Against Abortion" fan page.
The photo has also been published to the Facebook page for the "180" movie, which aims to "change the nation's views on abortion." On that page alone, the image has been shared more than 1,200 times by Facebook users.
An aspiring special education teacher wrote on Facebook, "Children are our gift and we can't ever forget about how much God loves them when He gives these kids to us."
Another Facebook commenter wrote, "I have a 5 year-old nephew and a cousin that is 20 years old and both have Down syndrome. I could not imagine them not in my life. They are precious, bright, loving, caring, giving and a gift from God."
Josh Mercer of CatholicVote.com was one of the prominent sharers of the image. After seeing the photo for the first time he said, "When I speak with friends who have a child with Down syndrome, unfailingly they all say how much joy their child brings into their life. It makes me feel ashamed to live in a country that chooses death instead of life for 90 percent of babies who are diagnosed with Down syndrome."
LifeSite News interviewed Andy Reigstad, who took photo and is the father of Boaz. Reigstad told LSN: "We're just thankful that it's touching a lot of people and opening a lot of eyes."
Reigstad told LSN he was inspired to snap the photo a week after watching the pro-life movie "180" and reading about the "Occupy Wall Street" movement.
In a recent survey of 2,044 parents or guardians, 79 percent reported their outlook on life was more positive because of their child with Down syndrome. The survey was conducted by Children's Hospital in Boston and reported by MSNBC.com
Boaz is the eldest of three children. He celebrates his sixth birthday on Sunday, Oct. 30.
