'Tokyo Ghoul' Season 3 News: Odahiro Watanabe Confirmed to Replace Shuhei Morita as Director

After months of lack of updates about the new season, it looks like the production for "Tokyo Ghoul" season 3 is already starting to make progress. Yesterday, it was confirmed that the upcoming season already has a new director, hinting that the series is set to go into production soon.

News about the new season surfaced earlier this year when it was announced that "Tokyo Ghoul: Re" would get an anime to mark the third season of the franchise. Despite the announcement, the future of "Tokyo Ghoul" still seemed uncertain because the original staff behind the first two seasons was reportedly not intact anymore. Luckily, a new update about the new season emerged earlier this week, confirming that the series is already getting a new director.

According to reports, Shuhei Morita, who helmed the first two seasons of the series, is stepping down as director of the third installment and "Soul Buster" and "Super Lovers" director Odahiro Watanabe will step up to take his place.

Helping Watanabe in the new season are Chuuji Mikasano, who will work on the composition of the series, and Atsuko Nakajima, who will work on the character designs. The series will reportedly be produced by Studio Pierrot, the same company that produced the first two seasons.

Although the upcoming series will be based on the "Tokyo Ghoul: Re" manga, reports suggest that major changes in the original material are still possible. Changes are also expected in terms of art direction, especially since the project is Nakajima's first in the franchise. The characters in the first two seasons of the series were all designed by former art director Kazuhiro Miwa.

As of now, reports about the plot of the new series are still scarce, so fans need to stay tuned for more updates. "Tokyo Ghoul" season 3 is expected to premiere sometime next year.
